Yamaha Licenses ARM7TDMI Core Processor

CAMBRIDGE, UK and TOKYO, July 2 /PRNewswire/ -- ARM [(LSE: ARM); (Nasdaq: ARMHY)], the industry's leading provider of 16/32-bit embedded RISC microprocessor solutions, and Yamaha Corporation, the world leader in electronic musical instruments, today announced that Yamaha has licensed the ARM7TDMI® microprocessor core.

This agreement will allow Yamaha to incorporate ARM® intellectual property (IP) into its devices which are used mainly for sound synthesis and signal processing in Yamaha's diverse range of electronic musical instruments.

``We first licensed an ARM7(TM) family core in 1996, and this has been an important component in our successful sound products,'' says Hirokazu Kato, director, Yamaha Corporation. ``But recent devices require more processing power, and we believe the industry-leading ARM7TDMI core has the necessary performance to provide this extra power. By utilizing the ARM7TDMI core, we will be able to deliver innovative products to the sound synthesis and signal processing markets.''

ARM offers full system-on-chip (SoC) solutions including processor cores, peripheral intellectual property, development tools, application software, EDA tools and design services. The ARM® architecture is well-supported by semiconductor and system manufacturers, real-time operating system providers, third-party tool chain developers, application software providers and ARM design centers.

``Yamaha has been developing products with ARM processor technology for the sound processing market since it became a licensee in 1996. This additional licensing agreement further underlines ARM's technology strength and relevance in the sound synthesis and signal processing market,'' said Reynette Au, VP corporate marketing, ARM. ``Yamaha is a world leader in the development of electronic musical instruments, and ARM's core IP technology will provide them with an ideal solution for their leading-edge applications.''
